Welcome to AI Health Uncut, a brutally honest newsletter on AI, innovation, and the state of the healthcare market. If you’d like to sign up to receive issues over email, you can do so here.

🥳 It’s my birthday! 🎂 And today, I’m going to be shamelessly selfish: the best birthday gift you could give me is your subscription. 😉 (Okay, maybe not the absolute best—but it would be pretty awesome. So thank you!)

AI Health Uncut is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work—especially on my birthday🎉— consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

I got sick and tired of hearing about how amazing this AI scribe is or how revolutionary that AI scribe claims to be. And neither the Internet nor ChatGPT was helpful—typically just regurgitating company PR and social media hype.

What I couldn’t find was an honest, unbiased comparative analysis of the AI scribe market from the user’s perspective—the clinicians themselves.

So, several months ago, I took matters into my own hands. I started personally testing various AI scribe tools and enlisted my clinician friends to help.

This 4-part series is the culmination of that journey.

Fair warning: this analysis is brutally honest. 😉

Honest and unbiased by definition—I don’t have sponsors, advertisers, or bosses. It’s just me.

I’m placing the first three parts behind a paywall because I want to at least entertain the possibility of protecting my work from LLMs.

As a reminder, if you cannot afford this article—perhaps you’re a student or currently between jobs—please reach out. That’s precisely why I created the AI Health Uncut Founding Member Club. Thanks to generous donations and support from these wonderful individuals, I’m able to provide access to anyone who needs it.

If you’d like to become a Founding Member of the AI Health Uncut community, you can join through this link. You’ll be making a real impact, helping me continue to challenge the system and push for better outcomes in healthcare through AI, technology, policy, and beyond.

  • In Part 1, I explore the overall AI scribe landscape, examine AI scribe adoption rates, and investigate why some clinicians enthusiastically embrace AI scribes, while others remain entirely skeptical.

  • In Part 2, I tackle critical questions such as whether AI scribes genuinely represent value-based care innovations or if they’re merely Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) tools disguised as clinical support. Additionally, I assess the real-world integration success of AI scribes within EHR systems and scrutinize their claims of saving significant time and money.

  • In Part 3, I dive deeply into a head-to-head comparison of the 50 most popular AI scribe tools. This evaluation is strictly from a user’s practical standpoint—no marketing bullshit allowed. Specifically, I compare:

    • Pricing

    • Note Accuracy & Quality

    • Editing Burden (time and effort required for revisions)

    • Integration & Workflow (ease of practical use within EHR systems)

    • Specialty Fit & User Trust

  • In Part 4, I summarize the fiery discussion from the Digital Health Inside Out episode titled “Why the Hell Do We Need 126 Medical AI Scribes?” featuring Brendan Keeler, Alex LeBrun, Bobby Guelich, my co-host Alex Koshykov, and myself. Notably, Brendan and I engage in a vigorous yet respectful debate regarding the commoditization of AI scribes and the role of venture capital.

TL;DR of Part 1:

1. Introduction

2. The 2025 AI Scribe Landscape: Most Are Just AI Tourists

3. Adoption of AI Scribes in U.S. Healthcare

4. Clinician Experience: Garbage In, Garbage Out?
